If you're extending your trip to explore Tuscany, however, renting a car can be a wonderful option.

Our advice: Carry one primary card, one backup card stored separately, and a modest amount of cash rather than relying exclusively on any single payment method.

Our favorite option is by train.

Take the tram from Florence Airport to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN), then board a direct train to Lucca.

The journey is simple, affordable, and one of the most scenic in Tuscany.
